When Yves Saint-Laurent was newly trained as a tailor, he presented his drawings to Christian Dior, who immediately hired him.
Collection: Yves Saint Laurent
After Dior's death in 1957, Saint-Laurent was appointed chief designer at the fashion house Dior.
In 1962, Yves Saint Laurent opened his own fashion house, where, in addition to haute couture, he designed children's clothing, furs and theater and film costumes. In 1966, he opened his first ready-to-wear store in Paris. In 1973 he introduced menswear.
Saint Laurent used the art of the 20th century in his designs, which in a classically perfected and graceful, body-hugging style were also inspired by street fashion.
